Creative Concertina Sketchbooks 2 - Allotments/Gardens

Forever! Once you've enrolled and paid, you'll have access to the course material for as long as you need. So devour it all in one weekend or take things slow. It's your choice!

You will use quite simple materials such as ink, collage papers, pva glue. The most expensive items are your sketchbook (you can make your own), posca pens and gesso (mainly because of the pot size!). The materials list is based on my demonstrations and what I use, but of course you can develop these ideas with other materials. Following is what you will need to buy and rough prices. Links to suppliers are given on the course.

Equipment that you will need, but probably have - scissors, brushes, kitchen roll, sandpaper, pencils, magazines, masking tape, pritt, water soluble felt tip, sticky labels.

These lessons are based an an intensive day workshop. In this online version you have the time and opportunity to actually sketch on location, so it could be completed in a weekend or an hour for each lesson = six hours.

The course is self paced; you can complete it when you have time. It may be a binge for a day or spread over 6 weeks. You have lifetime access to the course.

There are six lessons and each has 2-4 short videos, lists and pdf examples to print off. There are comment boxes after each lesson and there is a private facebook group if you wish to share.

Not at all. My sketchbooks are much more about mark making and exciting surfaces, with as little or as much drawing as you like.

Here is a list of the equipment that you will need to complete the course. If you have taken the Buildings course you will have 1-19 on the list.

You will find many items on the high street ie. masking tape, labels, spray bottles. My apologies, this is mainly UK based, please feel free to email me with suppliers for other countries.

1. Concertina sketchbook A5 + 2 big elastic bands. I do love Seawhite books as the paper is perfect www.artesaver.co.uk I have tried others but I always come back to seawhite for the quality and price ( if you add the code KS10 I do get a small rebate)

You can also try Hahnemuhle, Moleskein, Sennelier and Great Art have started making them ( May 2019)
2. Pencil case
3. White sticky labels - address labels sticky labels

4. White gesso

5. Pritt stick and PVA glue

6. Collage papers - old envelopes, stamps, patterned papers, photocopies, photographs, tickets, labels, wrapping paper. You will only need small amounts. Start collecting!

7. Magazine pages, thin pages and lots of print. In the UK, the Guardian magazine with the Saturday newspaper is the best. You will need dark areas of print; I find that car adverts and portraits often have a lot of black around the subject. (not in the photo)

8. Scissors or scalpel

9. Soft brushes for water based wash

Indian ink - (waterproof when dry) any stockist

Quink ink - nice qualities but not absolutely necessary.

Seawhite ink - ( not waterproof when dry) or another ink that is different to indian ink. They label their black as Indian Ink ( although it is not.) You need to order 'seawhite indian ink'. The image shows coloured ink - to make it even more confusing. The bottles are big- 7 inches high, so you do get a lot of ink for your money. You may find another ink very similar, really it is just an INK THAT HAS DIFFERENT QUALITIES to the other two.

11. Posca pens in two sizes ( small and big) in black and white plus other colours of your choice.

12. Berol fineliner pen berol fineliner (Pilot fineliner, Papermate Grip Roller and Bic Grip Roller are also water soluble pens)

13. Art graf ( you could also use inktense or water soluble crayons)
